The Bucket & Drip Irrigation System

Many Haitians survive by farming small plots of land, or they have a small family crop garden near their homes. An economical solution to irrigating these small farms and gardens is with a bucket & drip irrigation system.

This type of irrigation system starts with a bucket. It can be any type of
bucket, such as a plastic garbage can, a plastic tank, or any other container that can hold water. A hole is drilled toward the bottom of the bucket, and an adapter is attached to allow the water to flow out without leaking.

Next, “drip” tape is attached to the adapter. The drip tape has small, evenly-spaced holes which allow the water to efficiently “drip” out, to evenly distribute water over large areas of terrain.

Many thanks to the donor of this system, who wishes to remain anonymous!
